10- Knowledge is power! Understand your cancer what it is and what it is not.
9- Get connected- gather your support network. If you do not have anyone close to you ask your nurse about support/mentors in your area.
8- Write- get a notebook and write! Write out your questions and concerns. You will forget, so keep the notebook close! Your note book is also a safe place to write your feelings, good and bad.
7- Beware of the emotional vampires! Avoid letting others make your situation about them, or listening to stories about their third cousin removed and what happened to them. Everyones situation is different and no two cancers will have the same treatment and outcomes.
6- Be your own advocate! Ask questions! Ask for repeated explanations you understand. If something does not make sense ask again, or if something is uncomfortable to you ask for a second opinion!
5- Bring a battle buddy- have someone with you at your appointments. Someone who can take notes and ask questions.
4- Give your self time to process all that has happened, but do not give the cancer power over your life! Keep that power all to yourself!
3- Carpe Diem- Seize the Day! It is okay to say NO, and take time for yourself and your family! Try to take a mental health day thats all about you! Your health and well being are top priority!
2- Move it and be a Diva! When you feel that nervous energy taking hold go for a walk! Let the endorphins take over! Remember to look good doing it :) Run the brush thru your hair, throw on some lip gloss and strut your beautiful self! Cancer can be beautiful!
1- KNOW YOU ARE A WARRIOR! YOU ARE STRONG! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!
